Rahul condemns violence against Kashmiris, Centre issues fresh advisory

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday condemned the violence against Kashmiris and said India belonged to its citizens from every corner of the country.
Gandhi’s reaction came after two Kashmiri vendors selling dry fruits were thrashed by a group of saffron-clad men in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Tweeting a video of the incident, the Congress chief said: “While I’m disgusted by this video of Kashmiri traders being attacked in UP, I salute the braveheart who challenged the attackers. India belongs to its citizens, from every corner of our nation. I strongly condemn all acts of violence against our Kashmiri brothers and sisters.”

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident, the latest in a series of cases in which Kashmiris across the country were targeted after the Pulwama attack that killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel.

Meanwhile, the union home ministry Friday issued an advisory to all states and union territories asking them to reinforce the existing arrangements to ensure safety and security of persons belonging to Jammu and Kashmir who residing in their respective jurisdictions.

Referring to its earlier advisory issued on February 16 after some students and residents of Jammu and Kashmir experienced intimidation and harassment, the MHA directed the police of states and union territories to take strict action against offenders.

A Home Ministry official said the advisory has been issued in the wake of some reports of students and other residents of Jammu and Kashmir experiencing threats and intimidation in the backdrop of the February 14 suicide bombing in Pulwama that left 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel dead.
